2005 Seattle Elections Primary Elections Voters' Guide Richard Conlin
Video Voters Guide Statement of Candidate Click Here to View the Written Voters' Pamphlet Statement Submitted by Candidate Thank you for the honor of serving as your Councilmember. Over the past eight years I've made tough and effective decisions to improve public safety, build new parks, libraries, and community centers, and provide better housing, health care and education for all families. I've worked to get Seattle moving by forging regional agreements on replacing the Viaduct and SR520, supporting sensible transit alternatives, and persuading the Council to put more money into maintaining our roads and bridges. My goal is to support healthy families, communities and neighborhoods within a strong and sustainable economy. I am committed to creating a thriving downtown and vibrant neighborhoods connected by a variety of transportation choices. My long list of environmental accomplishments and my determination to maintain our quality of life have won me the endorsement of hundreds of environmental leaders. I also set priorities to ensure that Seattle tax payers get good value for their hard-earned dollars. PI columnist Joel Connelly named me "Gutsy Local Politico of the Year," and the Puget Sound Business Journal called me a "hero" for my willingness to ask critical questions about big, expensive projects that many politicians want to rush into. As your councilmember, I will continue to work on behalf of the people to make well-informed decisions about projects that impact our lives now and in the future. My wife Sue Ann and I have lived in Madrona for 24 years and our three children graduated from Seattle Public Schools. With your vote, I pledge to continue working with you to keep Seattle a place we are proud to call home. Endorsed by the Sierra Club, Washington Conservation Voters, 46th District Democrats, and hundreds of community leaders including David Brewster, Jim Diers, Jim Ellis, Denis Hayes, Bill Lewis, Bob Santos, Mark Weed, Ruth Woo; former Mayor Charles Royer, former Councilmembers Paul Kraabel, Dolores Sibonga, Jim Street; Port Commissioners Alec Fisken, Lawrence Molloy; Councilmembers Dow Constantine, David Della, Larry Gossett, Tom Rasmussen, Peter Steinbrueck; Senators Ken Jacobson, Adam Kline, Eric Poulsen; Representatives Bob Hasegawa, Phyllis Gutierrez Kenney, Joe McDermott, Ed Murray, Eric Pettigrew. "Great cities require great leadership. Richard Conlin has a track record of effectiveness in supporting Seattle neighborhoods while making a big city work. His experience, commitment, skill, and intelligence create results - a healthier and safer Seattle for all of us."
