2005 Seattle Elections Primary Elections Voters' Guide Ángel Bolaños
Video Voters Guide Statement of Candidate Click Here to View the Written Voters' Pamphlet Statement Submitted by Candidate Ángel Bolaños is running for Seattle City Council because he believes Seattle can be a more hospitable community for all citizens. He wants to distribute our city revenues fairly so that all taxpayers benefit, not just the very wealthy. Ángel plans to tackle the issues which have not yet been addressed. These include: Fiscal Responsibility and Open Government. We have been misled by empty promises of an open city government. Career politicians have become unaware of the needs of the citizens. It is time for us to stand against lack of integrity, accountability, and transparency by some Council members. Sustainable Neighborhood Economic Development. Seattle needs to distribute its resources more fairly. We need to balance the push for development with the desires to preserve green areas. We need to subsidize small and medium size businesses to bring new employment into our neighborhoods. This will help to build a stronger local economy and enhance the opportunity for low-income housing in every neighborhood. Public Safety and Accountability. The Office of Professional Accountability is ineffective. It is time to convene a Citizens Police Review Board of at least 9 members reflecting our diverse citizenry. The Board must have subpoena power to be truly effective. Public Education. Seattle Public Schools are facing a crisis in both fiscal management and in public trust. We must ensure that all schools in Seattle provide a free and appropriate quality education, no matter where the students live. Ángel holds a Masters of Public Administration, International Affairs from the Evans School of Public Administration at the University of Washington. During his 13 years in Seattle, Angel has been an active community organizer in job development for youth, minorities, men and women. He is a strong advocate for human rights and for public safety. Bolaños is a founding member of CASA-LATINA, and recently gained extensive awareness of the disparity in rights and services provided for citizens across our nation and city while working as Political Field Organizer for the National Association of Social Workers. Angel worked as political advisor in the Ecuadorian Congress. Ángel and his 8 year old daughter live in Hillman City/Columbia City. He envisions a better, inclusive, and more livable Seattle for our children's future a city that is free from racism and discrimination, and filled with opportunities. For this to happen, Ángel needs your support. Please vote for Ángel Bolaños on September 20th. The above statement was written by the candidate, who is solely responsible for the contents therein. |
